CERAMICS

I am captivated by this art form because of it's physical attributes. I see the clay or ceramic piece; I smell the earth, hear the rhythmic sound of kneading clay or a glaze cracking as it comes out the kiln but best of all is the sense of touch.  I can close my eyes and hold the clay, whether it is still wet or is a finished object and my hands engage with the object and it is tangible.

The Story Within (2012)

Am I Dreaming (2012)

I love the way porcelain has a way of 'creating rounded edges' when dripped into a mould...

Melt the Pot (2009)

The pictures inside come from the British Spode design. I place the images inside an African shaped pot to suggest my British cultural heritage as a 'white African'.

Will the Stories Disappear (2012)

This work resulted from a themed exhibition that revolved around the ocean. I have long been interested in how objects have been lost at sea never to be seen again. This lead me to contemplate how unless I record and find out about my grandparents lives and their stories they will be forgotten and taken to the grave, lost to me forever.

Labelled on the Inside (2009)

Clothes and objects are labelled with name brands on the outside leading people to desire to be known by brand names... I wanted the work to speak of our identity to be found within...

White Africa (2009)

Translucency (2011)

The title simply speaks of what  love about porcelain!

Tea and Me (2010)

Triangulation (2011)

(porcelain)

Stop and See (2012)
